Padel – Please Support Us!

padel racquets and tennis balls with a padel court behind it

Dear Member, as you will be aware we have been working hard on securing funding for our much heralded project over the last few months.  Whilst we are not fully over the line we are now very close to securing a major proportion of the required funding and would expect to be able to update you by the time the next MatchPoint edition is published, at the latest.

Obviously this is positive and exciting news but in order for us to develop the project in line with our original conceptual design and approved planning permission, we still need to attract additional funding to avoid the need of proceeding with a reduced scheme.

You can play your part in helping us with this final push by pledging your own personal sponsorship – see below for details and who to contact to help us realise what will be a wonderful new facility for everyone to use.

Every pledge will make a difference no matter how small!

Padel membership offer:

To help bring in advanced income, we are making a one-off offer for members to buy a 10 year membership package for £500.  That’s half price, but limited to 100 members only!

This applies to those who were members before the 30th April 2019.

Buy a Brick:

engraved brick and tile

We are planning a large patio area next to the courts.  We are offering members to buy a brick engraved with their name, companies name or personal message to be laid as part of the patio forever. A one-off payment of £50 or more.

If you would like to support the club by taking advantage of either of these offers, please contact our General Manager Michelle via the Contact page.

Wimbledon “Opt in” deadline 14 February

wimbledon logo with a match on centre court behind it

We are up to 160 members opting in which is good but last year we broke the 200 and we would like to do better.

It really does impact the number of Wimbledon tickets so by opting in you help more members to go. Even if you don’t intend to go please help, as in years when you do want to go others will be helping you.

Either ‘opt-in’ by going to the LTA website and go to Wimbledon ‘Opt-in’ or call 0208 487 7000 ext 2, which takes a couple of minutes of your time.

If you need your BTM numbers please contact Pat Cropper who will be happy to give it to you.

Tennis Courts & Lights

an artificain grass tennis court brush

We have re sanded courts 1-3, although the rain might have washed most off it away. We want to remind all members to brush the courts after playing as it does really help protect the quality of the courts.

A thank you to John and his team for sorting the replacement light bulbs on courts 1 & 2 and for replacing the wire fencing behind courts 11 & 12. They do a great job in keeping the courts the best in the area.

GM Update

the words a big thank you for your support

BJO – A Huge Thank You
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers who supported us with the British Junior Open Tournament. Chris Issacs, Steve Lloyd, Bob Keeling, Pete Vickers, Mike Hearn and Tony Howe. The tournament would not of been such a success without your time and dedication. Also a big thank you to Chris and Ali for running the tournament desk seamlessly. We have received fantastic feedback from this year’s event and look forward to being one of the satellite venues again in the near future.

First Aid
Please could all members be aware that we do have two defibrillators on site located in reception and just outside of the gym doors. We are delivering some more first aid training in February to train more staff in this area. We are also hoping to invite St Johns to the club to deliver ‘first aid awareness’ training to members, free of charge.

Once this has been confirmed I will be in touch.

Quiz Night

the words Quiz Night in neon lights

Saturday 22 February @ 20:00

Quiz Night with Kelvin & Chris

Get your thinking caps on and come down to the Club for our first Members & Guests Quiz night.

Please note the change of date!

You can pay your entry fee over the bar – only £2 per person.

This is a “bring own nibbles” event so it’s cheeseboards at the ready and eyes down at 8pm so we can get underway.

Coffee Machine

Our Coffee machine has recently been upgraded to a new “Jura” bean to cup machine.

We are pleased to offer Members a range of fresh coffees once again.

Bags in the Bar

black and lime green sports bag

As some of you will know we are allowing bags to be placed under or near the shelf on the left hand side as you enter the bar.  This is because members had got into the habit of leaving bags in the corridor or foyer and there was an incident with a Mobile Phone being stolen.

Whilst it is unsightly and far from ideal to have bags piled up in the corner of the bar we recognise the concerns of members not having their bags in sight following the regrettable incident.

We do ask that members put sports bags neatly in this area and also please refrain from placing bags next to the bar hatch as staff need to come in and out during the course of the evening and it presents a Health & Safety risk to them.

Coming up in March

the words what's on on a background that looks like a desk calendar

Please look out for the posters on the walls and on the tables in the bar with details of the Charity Comedy Night.

Also a Mother’s Day Carvery & Cabaret.

Details of all forthcoming events will soon be posted on the Club’s Facebook page.
