Cappendell Memorial Squash Tournament final was held on 22nd December and congratulations to Tony Howe, beating Steve Lloyd 3-1 in a close match.
Tony’s pace about the court gave him the edge, but he needed all his skills to dig the ball out with Steve playing well into the back corners.
Racketball Club Championships were held late November and big congratulations to Luke Friend who beat Justyn Claydon in the Open final.
To win the Racketball Open Category at 16 years old was a tremendous accomplishment. Well done Luke!
Other results were:-
● Ladies Open: Michelle Courtney beat Helen Rollinson
● Mens 35 to 45 Age Group: Andrew Cohu beat Pete Averill
● Mens 55 and over Age Group: Peter Kingston beat Charlie Mockble
● Leagues 4 to 9: Tim Forsyth beat Paul Fisher

Have a wonderful festive break.
Firstly I would like to thank all of the Solihull Arden Management Committee, Staff, Coaches, Volunteers and of course our members for a fantastic 2019. I wish you all a happy, healthy, peaceful 2020.
If you have any generic feedback which you would like to share with any members of the management team : Myself, Chantelle Davey, John Galpin or Darren Eustace – please come and speak to any one of us in the club.
Chantelle is overseeing the membership team & the bar operations. Darren is overseeing the day to day running of the bar and I am sure you are all aware that John is overseeing our facilities.
I have been concentrating on delivering our 5 year strategic plan for the club, managing the overall business and supporting our Padel Project fundraising and operational teams.
Myself and the management team are extremely excited for 2020. We will be getting together in January to discuss a marketing plan to help grow our membership base, which will contribute to making the club more sustainable. We will be ensuring that Solihull Arden has a presence in the borough so that we can really showcase what our club has to offer.
Again, if you have any ideas or are experienced in this area – please just come and speak to us or arrange a meeting with myself. Any support from members is always greatly appreciated.
Member’s Events – A Thank You!!
As the year draws to an end I would like to thank a few people who have helped me with member’s events throughout the year:-
Firstly a massive thank you goes to Mandy Dale who has done a fantastic job in organising and planning every event throughout this year. I honestly couldn’t have done this without you Mandy and a large number of our members have enjoyed a full calendar of events thanks to your hard work.
There have also been a number of Members who have given their time to run or help run events namely Jane Howe (Day at the Races, Mother’s Day & Xmas Carvery), Dean McLeod (Cheese & Wine), Nick Reynolds (DJ on Cheese & Wine and Free & Easy Night), Colin McCauley (Free & Easy Night), Tim Woodfield (various Comedy Nights) and Michelle Courtney (various Comedy Nights).
These events take quite a bit of organising and I am grateful for all the help that the above people have given in 2019.
Member’s & Guest’s Quiz Night
Saturday 22 February
YES! Our popular quiz night is back in February with our usual quizmasters Kelvin & Chris Jones in charge of proceedings.
Please put this date in your diaries and look out for more details nearer the time. Details will be posted on posters around the club and on the tables in the bar as well as on Facebook and in January’s newsletter.
New Year! New Beers!
A number of Members have indicated they are off the beer in January. We have a range of soft drinks as well as teas and coffees however the Becks Blue was proving unpopular. We have therefore decided to replace this with Heineken Zero and will monitor whether this is acceptable.
We trialled selling Cobs during November/December and our Caterers Partridges currently deliver 10 Cobs on Tuesdays and 10 Cobs on Thursdays (various fillings).
These are proving popular with members wanting a quick bite to eat after their matches so I am pleased to say that we will continue to order the Cobs until further notice.
Member’s “Big” Birthdays
Where we have details of Member’s Date of Birth on the system we have written out to those who have a “Big” birthday in 2020 (i.e. 40th/50th/60th, etc.) to invite them to hold their celebration at the club.
For those of you who have not given us your date of birth and who are having a big birthday in 2020 please contact Mandy Dale. Mandy will let you know the details of the offer should you wish to celebrate your birthday at the Arden.
Please let Mandy know via the CONTACT US page
