COVID-19
Just a brief update as I am sure you have all heard enough about Covid-19 by now! Good news is that the Club is in a stable position with the tennis and squash courts open for use, the gym is available again and the Bar open every day.

We have received feedback from a number of members about not being able to use the changing rooms and showers and the position with this is still subject to Government instructions which remain as “Use of changing rooms and showering facilities should in general be avoided where possible…”. We are aware of local gyms opening their changing rooms and showers, but this is permitted under the rules where they have swimming pools.

In terms of racquet sports, there are now minimal restrictions for playing tennis. For squash the guidance from England Squash is still that two players from the same household can play unrestricted squash, but that those from separate households should play a version of the game known as ‘sides’, guidelines for which are on all court doors. Please follow the instructions by each court for use of the sanitizers.

Thank you for all members for following the ‘one-way’ system in the club to maintain distancing, although I am sure now and again we have all suffered ‘auto-pilot’ overrides! The ‘one-way routes’ will change slightly in early September, so please watch out for information on this.

PADEL TENNIS
We are very pleased to announce that we have secured funding to build 3 Padel Tennis courts. Although the tender process was significantly drawn out by Covid-19, we are now very close to concluding this and appointing our chosen supplier for groundworks and court construction. The plan is to commence work as soon as feasible in order to have the courts open within the next 3 to 6 months. As soon as Project Plans are base-lined we will circulate more information. In the meantime, please consider the ‘buy a brick’ sponsorship offer and the special Padel 10 year member deal, leaflets for both being available on Reception.

Congratulations to the 1st Team who won the prestigious Warwickshire Division One title for the second year running, when they beat Kenilworth in the last game of the season – March 20th 2020. A massive thank you to all the captains for another great season.

General Manager Update

general manager update

THANK YOU!
A big thank you to Keith & Pat, our Bar Supervisor’s parents, Pat Cropper, Peter Sutton and Delphine Sutton for taking up their time to help maintain our grounds during the last few months. Myself, John and the team really appreciate the time and effort you have put in to making the club look presentable and a welcoming place to come. John and the team currently have a back log of maintenance work to be carried out within the club and the grounds to catch up with so all the help and support offered is appreciated.

outdoor aed cabinet

NEW AED CABINET
As you will have noticed we now have invested in a new AED (Auto emergency defibrillator) cabinet situated at the front of our clubhouse. This will store one of our AED’s so that when the clubhouse is closed, if any of our members were to suffer a cardiac arrest – you will have access to the AED by inserting the code. If you do not have the code to hand, you can call 999 and will be given the code. We thought this was paramount in this ever changing ‘new world’ in case of any future lockdowns of the club, where tennis was the only accessible sport during May this year. Our AED is also now registered within the community, so Solihull Arden Club could now also help save lives in our neighbouring streets.

black and lime green sports bag

SPORTS EQUIPMENT
Please could all members store their sports equipment and bags in their cars for the foreseeable future to minimise the amount of space taken up in the bar area and to support social distancing/risks. If you do not have a car to store your bag/equipment in, you can store it in the function room. We are looking into some suitable storage for members to place their belongings in the club, at their own risk.

HIRING OF COURTS
We have recently hired our disused tennis courts out to Solihull Karate club, they are utilising the courts during week day evenings and Saturday mornings currently. I have asked the organiser to ensure the parents are using the top end of our car park, saving the closer spaces for members.

air conditioning unit

AIR CONDITIONING
We have now installed air conditioning in the Gym and Function room. The main units recirculate, launder the air through filters and either chill or heat according to the temperature it’s set at. In both areas fresh air is introduced from outside and after being used it is expelled back to outside on the opposite side of the building. The filters are being sanitised as part of our rigourous cleaning programme.

cancer research logo

CANCER RESEARCH
Unfortunately one of our members came to me last week to give me the sad news that his wife has recently passed away with Oesophageal cancer. Kathy had no idea she had this cancer until she was already at stage 4. There can be very little warning signs of this cancer until you stop being able to swallow. Kathy’s husband is a member of our club and is now putting all of his energy into sharing his experience to hopefully raise awareness and help others. The family have set up a just giving page on which you can find more information on and make a donation to help others.

we want your feedback

MEMBERS FEEDBACK
I am very conscious that we did not run an AGM this year in a ‘normal’ manner. We still have some 2020 AGM packs available should you wish to have a copy. However, if you have any direct feedback you would like the management committee to take on board – please do pop and see me in the office or arrange an appointment where I would be more than happy to listen.
